Clear Braces Essex – One in two teens believes wearing metal braces makes them self-conscious about smiling; Lowers self esteem, according to new national survey

At an age when image is so important, for a teen the thought of having metal brackets and wires constantly attached to teeth may exacerbate the already-delicate self-esteem of today’s teens, according to a new nationwide survey of 12 to 17 year olds by Align Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: ALGN), (aligntech.com), makers of Invisalign Teen (invisalignteen.com).

While having straight teeth and a beautiful smile is important to teens, the “Behind the Smile” survey conducted for Align by global insights firm Kelton Research reveals that over half of teens (54%) believe metal braces would make them more self-conscious, and one in two teens (50%) would smile less.

“Not everyone is born with a perfect smile. So for many teens, wearing braces is inevitable,” says Calif.- based orthodontist Mark A. Lowe, D.D.S. (drloweortho.com). “The good news is that today’s image?conscious teens now have a choice for straightening their teeth. There are proven alternatives such as clear, removable braces, like Invisalign Teen, that are comparable in cost to metal braces, but meet teen’s desire for aesthetic treatment and are a better fit for their busy lifestyles filled with sports, music and other activities.”

According to the American Association of Orthodontists, patients aged 12 to 17 years represent more than half of the over two million orthodontic case starts in the U.S. each year. Until now, only a small number of orthodontists have routinely treated teenagers with clear aligners, due in large part to concerns about patient compliance and the ongoing development of permanent dentition.

Invisalign Teen was developed with leading orthodontists who understand the unique treatment and compliance needs of teens. The new Invisalign Teen product combines the benefits of Invisalign with new features like blue Compliance Indicators that are designed to gradually fade as the aligner is worn, Eruption Tabs that accommodate the growth of secondary molars, and other features that address clinical needs common to teen patients.

“When you walk into a room with braces, you feel like everyone is looking at you; or when you’re talking to someone, you feel like they’re looking at your braces,” admits 14?year?old high?school freshman Elizabeth C. “With Invisalign, it’s cool because your teeth are getting straighter, but people don’t even realize you have them. I don’t worry about wearing my aligners during cheerleading, winter guard or swim practice either. They are safe to wear and they don’t interfere with my life.”

Survey Findings at a Glance

A closer look at the data reveals other key insights:

  • In Search of a Smile. Only 4% of respondents would flash their pearly whites more often if wearing metal braces. The survey shows that a higher number of older teens would stop themselves from cracking a smile. Over half (55%) of those aged 15 to 17 would smile less, compared to 44% of 12 to 14 year olds.
  • Gender Clash. Teen boys are more mindful of all the negative things that go along with wearing metal braces, while girls are a little more willing to see the brighter side. Over half (53%) of males aged 12 to 17 would smile less if they had metal braces, compared to less than one in two (46%) of their female counterparts. In addition, teen girls are more likely than boys to note some positive things about having metal braces, such as being able to customize them (43% vs. 24%) and the fact that braces can make you more conscientious about dental hygiene at a young age (37% vs. 30%).
  • Brace Yourselves. Though a majority (62%) feel that wearing metal braces as a teen is painful and uncomfortable, the effects go deeper than this. More than one in two (54%) teens believes wearing metal braces makes them self?conscious about smiling.
  • They’re Not Turning Their Frowns Upside-Down. Braces seem to exacerbate many common teenage issues. Over a third (35%) believe teens with metal braces get made fun of, and nearly a quarter (24%) think metal braces lower a teen’s self-esteem.
  • Not in This Together. Wearing metal braces apparently isn’t the best bonding experience, as just 4% of 12 to 17 year olds believe they allow teens to fit in with their peers. And, contrary to popular belief, just 11% feel that having metal braces is a teen rite of passage.
  • West Coast: Image Is Everything. While some might argue about where trends are born, West Coast teens agree on one thing — braces are not for the image-conscious. Nearly two thirds(60%) say braces make teens more self-conscious about smiling, compared to 53% of teens living elsewhere. West Coast teens are also more likely than the rest of their peers to believe braces lower self-esteem (29% vs. 22%).

The Invisalign Teen survey sampled 510 U.S. respondents aged 12 to 17 with a 95% confidence level of +/? 4.3 percentage points.

Clear Braces essex – 3 WAYS TO MAKE 2017 BETTER FOR YOUR FAMILY

As a parent, it can be easy to get caught up with the day-to-day details and lose sight of the big picture of life.  One of the things I love about the new year is that it seems to refocus me back on what is important.

Family Goals 2017 - Invisalign

This year I want to concentrate on three things that could make 2017 the best year for my family…ever!

FAMILY GAME NIGHT

Our family loves to play games – cards, board games, video games, anything!  My three boys are 11, 13 & 15 and although spending time with mom and dad isn’t something they would admit to loving, I have never seen them turn down the offer of a game!

I want to leverage this competitive nature for the good of our family.  I adore the trash-talking, collective strategy and family time that game night brings.  Recently, I have just let this happen organically and it just hasn’t been frequent or consistent.

In 2017, I am adding family game night to our calendar because it is THAT important!

HYGIENE, HYGIENE, HYGIENE

When the kids were younger, it was easy to make sure they were clean, their teeth were brushed and behind their ears were scrubbed…because it was up to me to make it happen!

Now that they are older and independent in these tasks, it has been easy to take focus off of the importance of these unless someone STINKS!  But it is my duty to make sure they go out into this world with good habits.  Not only so they don’t stink, but because it can keep them healthier.

One thing I will be stressing in 2017 is good oral health.  This means stressing the importance {and follow-through} of brushing and flossing.  One of my kids is already in braces and the next one will be starting with Invisalign Teen®clear aligners.  I love that the clear aligners are removable, so he can get proper brushing and flossing in and he’ll have no food restrictions to worry about either.  I also love that Invisalign technology has become so advanced that they’re able to treat minor to complex cases, so it’s definitely worth getting a consultation if you’ve considered traditional braces for your teen.

I recently finished up my Invisalign treatment and am so happy with the results.  The amazing thing is that they are virtually invisible – my family had forgotten I was even wearing them!

GATHERING FRIENDS & FAMILY

I am adding one more thing to my calendar in 2017.  It will be a specific time to make sure we are seeing friends and extended family.  Life goes by so quickly! It is easy to go one, two, three months without hugging someone dear in person!  I don’t want that for our future.

How do Fastbraces work?

Fastbraces technology was developed with safety in mind. This allows the system to be fast and affordable without compromising patient care. Fastbraces use a unique, patented bracket design that is triangular in shape. The triangular shaped bracket allows for the use of just one wire throughout your treatment. At Clear Braces Essex, our patients can get a stunning, straight smile in as little as a few months. Some patients even see results in just a few weeks.

fastbraces-in-essexAm I a good candidate for Fastbraces?

There are a few simple questions to consider, that can help determine whether you are a good candidate for Fastbraces in Essex:

  • Do you desire a straighter, more attractive smile?
  • Would you like that beautiful smile in a few month’s rather than the years that traditional braces normally take?
  • Would you like to experience more comfort from your orthodontic treatment?
  • Would you like to pay less for your orthodontic treatment?
  • Have you ever considered traditional metal braces, but have been put off by the need to wear them for years?

If the answer is yes to any of these questions then Fastbraces In Essex, could be the treatment for you.

The Pros of Fastbraces

Treatment time for Fastbraces in Essex is measured in months instead of years. This can significantly reduce the possibility of decay around the brackets and gum irritation, due to shorter treatment time, which can potentially become a problem with traditional fixed braces. You can now have the ability to drastically change your teeth in a much quicker time.

Fastbraces in Essex are very easy to use. Retainers need to be worn for as little as 15 to 20 minutes a day and can be popped in whenever is suitable, to fit around your lifestyle choices.

Fastbraces are also aesthetically pleasing as ceramic brackets are available with tooth-coloured wires.

The pros don’t end there, as Fastbraces in Essex, have been proven to be safe, after being tested by leading universities around the world.

The Fastbraces in Essex treatment is also very likely to never involve tooth extractions, due to the nature of the straightening process.

What are Fastbraces?

At Clear Braces Essex, Fastbraces technology allows for movement not just of the crown but also the roots of the teeth.

Fastbraces in Essex straighten roots and crowns, using their unique and patented orthodontic brace design and approach. Its snug rectangular wire and different triangular brackets start applying force in three dimensions and correcting root positions from the first day of treatment. This is different to the typical traditional brace alternatives. Traditional braces use looser round wires or removable aligners that mainly tip teeth and can wave their root around, sometimes in the opposite direction to that finally desired.

fastbraces-in-EssexTraditonal braces vs Fastbraces in Essex

Traditional braces move teeth into position in two stages. This is usually over a period of about two years. In the first year, the crown of the tooth is moved into alignment. In the second year, treatment addresses the position of the root of the tooth. However, the brackets used with Fastbraces work on a different mechanical principle altogether. The patented system uses an cutting-edge bracket and a specially shaped wire to correct the position of the root of the tooth, right from the beginning of treatment. This combination is key in realigning the root and crown simultaneously.

The benefits

Twenty years of use, thousands of consecutively treated patients and university research have shown that Fastbraces are not only safe, but offer many benefits. Patients oftentimes experience less discomfort with Fastbraces in Essex. There are no more risks with Fastbraces in Essex than those associated with traditional braces. Also the fact that the braces are on for less time means that the potential for tooth decay due to improper oral hygiene is reduced.

Treatment with Fastbraces in Essex improves your lifestyle. This is because it typically takes just a few visits. Less dentist visits mean less money spent and even less time off school or work.

Another remarkable benefit is the reduction of retainer usage. When the braces come off you only need to wear the retainers for 15 minutes a day.
